An alleged drunken driver collided with a pole Tuesday night when he apparently allowed his vehicle to veer off the roadway and crash into it, according to news sources.
The 22-year-old man was driving a 200 Volvo S-80 on Redemeyer Road at night when he seems to have allowed his vehicle to drift off the road and collide with a power pole, according to a California Highway Patrol officer. Upon collision, the man attempted to flee the scene of the crash on foot.
The downed pole and power lines that go through it were laying across the roadway when officer arrived at the scene and caused a power outage east of Ukiah. Crews could reportedly still be seen the next morning clearing the scene and attempting to restore power.
The 22-year-old driver was found by two officers hiding in bushes in a nearby vineyard. The man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run as well as other charges facing him.
