According to several news articles, the FDA has ruled Avastin as potentially ineffective in the treatment of advanced breast cancer.
The articles reveal that the Food and Drug Administration has been studying the drug and its components and the results have turned out to be frustrating. The agency hasn’t found any evidence that the drug can assist the patient in any way. Patients taking Avastin can end up having to deal with dangerous side effects like high blood pressure, heart attacks, massive bleeding, heart failure and tears in their intestines and stomach.
A spokesperson for the FDA announced that the rigorous testing allowed them to learn the truth about this otherwise promising drug. According to the news, the disappointing findings haven’t led the drug to be taken off the market yet. Doctors still may prescribe Avastin although the FDA formally revoked the drug in the treatment of breast cancer.
According to the official statement, Medicare still covers the revoked drug although other insurers may stop all coverage of Avastin in the near future.
As a Riverside personal injury lawyer, I understand that the studies show cancer patients are more likely to be harmed than helped by this revoked drug. I think it’s good that the federal government is working toward making cancer treatment drugs less dangerous.
Whenever you feel you’ve used a drug that may have affected your health in a negative way, it is always best to have a knowledgeable personal injury lawyer on your side to help evaluate your case.
