A big-rig collided with a police vehicle in Madera County on Highway 99, causing damage to three vehicles and injuring a motorist and police officer. The crash happened when the officer was stopped along southbound Highway 99 at 8:30am to help a stranded motorist. When a family member helped the stranded driver, the police officer walked back to his car. A big-rig then veered from the road and crashed into the back of the patrol vehicle, which caused it to then crash into the stranded vehicle, which then hit another vehicle.
According to news reports, the officer is currently being treated for minor injuries along with the stranded driver. The collision remains under investigation. Officials say driver distraction may have caused the big-rig driver to veer off the road.
