Several news agencies in California have been covering an accident that unfortunately turned out to be fatal. According to the multiple articles mentioning this accident, a 47-year-old bicyclist from La Puente was traveling on the eastbound lanes of the Don Julian Road at about 6:30 p.m. when he failed to notice a raised metal mailbox. The California Highway Patrol troopers who responded to the accident scene claim that the man struck the mailbox, lost grip of his bicycle and crashed. The man was thrown against the pavement as a result of being ejected from the bike. As soon as the bicyclist hit the ground, he slid and rested after his head hit the raised pavement. According to the news, the man was declared dead at the scene.
This terribly unfortunate accident is now under investigation.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s official incident report, the man did not have his helmet on at the time of the occurrence.
It’s my hope as a Bakersfield personal injury lawyer that the closest relatives and friends of the man who was unfortunately killed in this tragic occurrence are being able to receive all the support and attention they deserve in this time of grief. My most heartfelt condolences go out to them. I’m always terribly saddened to learn about an accident that turns out to be fatal. I encourage bicyclists to keep it in mind that safety gear can protect you in the event of an accident and urge you to always have your helmet on while riding your bicycle.
