A motorcyclist succumbed to severe accident injuries sustained Sunday after rear ending a car. The Oakland motorcycle crash occurred Sunday on Interstate Freeway 980. Mercury News reported that two people were riding on the motorcycle when it crashed into the back of a fast breaking car in front of them. The passenger and motorcyclist were thrown from the bike and slid across the pavement. They both incurred critical motorcycle accident injuries including broken bones, lacerations, and head trauma.
Paramedics arrived on the motorcycle crash scene after witnesses called in the accident to authorities. The injured biker and his passenger were transported to Highland Hospital to receive emergency treatment. The California Highway Patrol was investigating the cause of the deadly bike crash and has yet to rule out alcohol or drugs as contributing factors to the accident. Doctors declared the woman passenger in critical condition and are keeping her under surveillance in the emergency ward of the hospital. The man driving the car that was hit in the motorcycle accident was not injured in the accident.
Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to accident injuries as a bike offers little in the way of protection to a rider. As a personal injury lawyer in Oakland and avid motorcycle rider it is a shame to hear about this accident and tragic loss of life. I encourage all bikers to use a helmet and take extra precautions when riding through heavy traffic. If you or a loved one was injured in a bike crash, an Oakland motorcycle accident lawyer can help assess your claim.
