A bicyclist was taken to UCI Medical Center after being hit by a car in Orange County. According to the OC Register, the bike crash was reported at about 10:30 a.m. on the Beach Boulevard off-ramp of the 22 freeway. The bike rider was hurt as he traveled across the crosswalk near the off-ramp.
Bike riders across Orange County and all over Southern California have been campaigning for more rights on the road and increased protection under state traffic laws. The powerful lobby of bicycle enthusiasts includes Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa who was himself a victim of a bike accident last year.
Biking is seen as a popular alternative to driving as well as being an enjoyable form of exercise. As a personal injury attorney in Newport Beach I urge county officials to expand access for bike riders on the roads and create more bike lanes on major streets. Bicyclists need support from community leaders and to be protected from harm by law enforcement officials. If you or a loved one suffered a bicycle crash injury as a result of another person’s negligence than speak with an experienced bicycle accident lawyer to evaluate your personal injury claim.
