According to several news agencies, a recall alert has been issued for all units of Bowflex® SelectTech® 1090 Dumbbells over possible injury hazards.
The series of recall announcements issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have revealed that the dial responsible for the weight selection in these devices could fail without warning and weight plates could fall while the dumbbell is being lifted from its cradle.
The federal agency has urged consumers to stay aware of the dangers they could face if the weight selectors in these dumbbells fail and to respond to this recall before injuries are reported. According to the official recall announcement, this action was prompted following discoveries that about 17,000 units of dumbbells have experienced weight selector dial failures including three reports of incidents that resulted in injuries.
The federal agency has stated that these devices can be identified by the word ‘BOWFLEX’ that can be found in grey along the top of the dumbbell’s handles and the product’s date-of-manufacture code that may range between 1111 and 1136. All defective dumbbells manufactured and distributed by Nautilus Inc. of Vancouver, Washington were sold online between May 2011 and August 2011.
At this moment, owners of these recalled and potentially dangerous dumbbells are being advised they must contact the manufacturer as soon as possible to have a repair kit being shipped to them along instructions on how to have it installed.
Questions or doubts related to this recall announcement should be addressed to Nautilus immediately.
