If you did not know yet it’s Child Passenger Safety Week is coming up and it is a perfect time to check your child’s car seat performance and safety. Securing your children properly in the appropriate child seat and in the back seat of your vehicle, is the safest thing you can do to protect your child in the event of an auto accident. Studies show that in an auto accident a child safety seat can reduce the risk of fatal injury to an infant by 71 percent and 54 percent for toddlers. Those are huge numbers to say the least.
Reports say that a majority of parents buckle up their children in child in some sort of safety seat. The bad news is according to the U.S Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 3 out of 4 child safety seats are not used properly. This presents a great risk for children. Child Passenger Safety Week is going on from September 19th to the 25th. It’s a great time to focus child seat issues, and can provide parents with resources and information to protect children from a fatal auto accident injury.
As a Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer I think all parents and caregivers should have the most up to date information on child passenger safety. Also remember that passengers under age 13 should ride securely restrained in the back seat. It’s just a fact that they are safer there.
