A CHP officer sustained major injuries to his leg while attempting to assist a stranded motorist. According to Mercury News the police officer was trying to help the driver of a disabled vehicle following a hail storm. He broke his leg when a driver slammed into a pickup truck on a San Jose highway. Apparently the driver of the car that crashed into the broken down auto was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The officer’s partner called in the car accident and had paramedics dispatched to the crash scene to tend to the wounded policeman. The drunk driver was then arrested and is being charged with felony DUI. He is being held by authorities in jail on $25,000 bail. The officer who sustained the injuries on his leg had to undergo a series of surgeries to repair the damage. As a Fresno car accident lawyer this incident of drunk driving goes to show how dangerous and irresponsible it is to drink and drive. Motorists planning to drink should plan ahead and take a taxi to their destination or have a designated driver to provide transportation. If you or a loved one were injured in an auto accident due to a drunk driver, speak with a personal injury lawyer to discuss your legal options.
