A 52-year-old woman was arrested near Castroville for allegedly driving under the influence after crashing her car on Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver of a 2010 Kia Soul crashed head-on into a 2005 Honda CRV while traveling east on Highway 156. Both drivers sustained major personal injuries. Other occupants inside the SUV received minor injuries, and were treated at local hospitals. The driver was possibly under the influence of drugs during the time of the crash.
Witnesses told officials that the suspect was driving erratically, and weaving in and out of lanes just prior to the crash. For an unknown reason, she swerved into the opposite lanes and hit the front left side of the Honda. She was speeding at about 50-65 mph when the crash happened, and the SUV driver was going at 45 mph when the collision happened.
According to news reports, the SUV she smashed into overturned many times and landed on the south shoulder of Highway 156. The SUV driver is being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital. As a Los Angeles car accident lawyer, I hope the SUV driver heals quickly and I look forward to hearing whether or not the Kia driver was driving under the influence of drugs.
