According to several news agencies, a new threat related to the rising rate of poisoning in kids has been concerning parents in the last months.
The news reported that due to the bright colors and sweet smell of the single-use laundry detergent packs present in several households, kids are ingesting these pods because they may believe it to be candy. In the past couple of days, the California Poison Control System has received at least nine incident reports related to childhood poisonings of toddlers who were rushed to the hospital after consuming detergent packs. Children’s hospitals have reported that the increasing number of poisonings associated with the colorful pods are becoming ever more frequent than expected, with at least 250 cases reported nationwide in the past six months.
Pods associated with this rising number of child poisoning cases are sold nationwide as Purex Ultra Packs, Tide Pods and All Mighty Paks.
Although no deaths or serious or long-term health problems have been reported in association with these incidents, doctors are encouraging parents to stay aware of this issue and keep all detergents or hazardous cleaning materials in a storage cabinet that is out of your children’s reach.
As a personal injury lawyer I believe that it’s better to be safe than sorry so do not wait until your child is injured for you to act, keep all of your household’s cleaning materials in a locked cabinet and maintain your kids safe.
