News sources reported that a 17-year-old driver crashed her vehicle while reaching for a falling drink near Winters Monday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place on the Interstate 505 northbound onramp from Highway 128 around 3:15pm. CHP officials say that the woman was driving at around 50mph when she noticed that her drink, which was in the center console, was beginning to tip over. She reached to grab it with her right hand and accidentally turned the steering wheel. She attempted to correct the vehicle, but lost control and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder of the road. The guardrail “caused a major intrusion” into the passenger side of the vehicle.
The woman’s passenger suffered major injuries and the Winters Fire Department used an extrication tool to get him out. Both occupants were treated at the scene, and then transported to the UC Davis Medical Center.
No other vehicles were involved in this accident.
