News sources reported that a 70-year-old man was fatally struck by a car while walking on a highway in Spring Valley Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported at 2:12am on Friday. Authorities are unclear as to why the man was walking on State Route 125 near Spring Street at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle that struck the man stopped immediately after the collision and stayed at the scene until emergency crews arrived. He submitted to sobriety tests and CHP officers ruled out the influence of drugs or alcohol in the accident.
Lanes nearest the accident were blocked until around 4:30am Friday morning. The identity of the victim will not be released, pending notification of his family.
CHP Officials are continuing to investigate this accident. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
