A severe auto accident on the 5 freeway has claimed the life of one motorist. According to the Sacramento Bee the catastrophic auto accident involved several vehicles, including a sport-utility vehicle that went through a guardrail on the transition ramp of southbound I-5 to Highway 50. CHP officials reported that the SUV ended up on fire next to a freeway wall along southbound I-5.
The car crash closed down a portion of the highway as firefighters had to be called in to put out the vehicle fire and free the occupant of the SUV from the wreckage. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the crash victim to no avail, pronouncing him dead at the scene. CalTrans crews were called in to tow the wrecked vehicles away and clear the highway of debris to allow traffic to begin to flow freely. CHP officers are investigating the cause of the crash.
