A young woman from Sonora was involved in a tragic collision Monday morning in Calaveras County, and new evidence has emerged which shows why the crash happened. The 22-year-old was texting with her boyfriend when the crash occurred. The California Highway Patrol said the crash started when the young woman veered out of the northbound lane of Highway 49 in her Honda Accord, between San Andreas and Angels Camp. She crossed into the southbound lane after over-correcting and collided with a pick-up truck head-on. The pick-up truck occupants, two men, were treated at a local hospital for moderate injuries.
According to news reports, phone records were obtained by authorities which indicated she was texting just prior to the crash at 7:35am.
