An accident that happened in Los Alamitos led to a fatality, according to several local news agencies.
According to an official memo issued by the California Highway Patrol, the motorist of a Chevrolet Silverado was driving just south of Katella Avenue on the southbound lanes of the Interstate 605 when he suddenly lost grip of the wheel for unknown reasons. The vehicle drove off the road and plunged into a ditch, just before colliding against a tree.
The vehicle was carrying two occupants and loads of containers marked as radioactive materials, which led the local authorities to call a hazardous materials team before clearing the accident scene. The driver was declared dead immediately and according to the California Highway Patrol troopers who responded to the scene, the passenger was sent to the hospital sustaining serious injuries. The news agencies covering this accident have revealed that the far right lane of the interstate was blocked for an unknown period of time until the hazardous materials experts deemed the containers safe.
It’s my sincere hope that the person injured in this accident is being able to recover quickly from all the wounds he sustained in this tragic accident. My most heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved friends of the motorist killed in this crash. Hopefully, the California Highway Patrol is able to identify the reasons behind this crash so similar occurrences can be prevented from happening in the future.
