The President of the Los Angeles based construction company, Tower General was seriously injured in a plane crash over the weekend. He was flying the company’s twin engine Piper Twin Comanche solo out of Big Bear airport when the aircraft expereinced engine trouble shortly after takeoff. Airport personnel notified local authorities of the distress call, readying firefighters and paramedics near the runway in preparation for an emergency landing.
The aircraft never made it back. According to KTLA News of Los Angeles, the pilot’s plane rapidly lost altitude, crashing into the side of a house close to the airport. Miraculously, the pilot survived the airplane accident, freeing himself from the wreckage. FAA and NTSB officials have pledged to investigate the cause of the crash.
The house was occupied at the time of the airplane crash. The pilot and resident of the damaged home suffered injuries from the aircraft accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Tower General issued a press release regarding the plane crash, stating that the company’s Vice President would be named as interim President to take over day to day operations. The pilot is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries and return to work when cleared by his physician.
The President of Tower General is an avid flight enthusiast and well known minority business leader in Los Angeles. He is truly lucky to have survived an airplane accident of this magnitude. As an aviation accident lawyer in Los Angeles, I know a plane crash is one of the biggest fears local residents have when living in close proximity to an airport. Recently, residents living near the Santa Monica airport protested a federal court ruling allowing jets to have full take-off and landing access, citing the risk of an airplane accident occurring.
If you or a loved one were hurt in an airplane accident, an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer can provide legal assistance to resolve your claim in an expedient and professional manner.
