The CHP has mounted an investigation into the killing of a man in a pedestrian accident on highway 280 in the early morning hours. According to Mercury News the pedestrian hit and run took place when a man walking alongside the freeway was struck and killed. The vehicle that hit the man was left at the accident scene but the person that was driving it was nowhere to be found. CHP officers said that the accident occurred about 5:50 a.m., when the vehicle struck the man on southbound Interstate 280 north of San Pedro road.
The police shut down the highway for several hours in order to collect evidence and determine why the pedestrian accident took place. Detectives are searching for the driver of the vehicle and have asked anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspect to contact the police department immediately.
Pedestrian accidents unfortunately can have tragic results and as a personal injury lawyer in San Diego I urge motorists to never leave the scene of an auto collision. Perpetrating a hit and run is a serious crime that can carry a long prison sentence, major fines, and also a revoked drivers license. If you or a loved one were hurt in a hit and run auto collision, speak with a qualified car accident lawyer right away to discuss your legal options.
