A car crash on Highway 17 left one 28-year-old from Santa Cruz in critical condition. He was airlifted after he lost control of his 1992 BMW 325i driving southbound on Highway 17 near Laurel Road, and entered northbound lanes. A 55-year-old from Scotts Valley was driving his 2000 GMC Sierra pickup in the northbound lanes when he crashed into the previous driver. The 28-year-old sustained major personal injury and was airlifted to Valley Medical Center. “It’s too early to tell” why Schooner lost control, a CHP spokeswoman said.
According to news reports, the driver from Scotts Valley was sore, but returned to work on Monday, after attempting to see a doctor but not being able to afford the co-pay. The 28-year-old driver may lose both his legs. Traffic was slowed due to the accident from Scotts Valley to Los Gatos.
my thoughts go out to the families involved in this tragic collision, and I hope investigators find out why the car lost control. I also hope the driver from Scotts Valley is treated for his injuries despite not being able to afford a co-pay. The importance of getting medical treatment when needed is valuable for maintaining health and wellness for a lifetime.
