News sources report, a man died Saturday after being thrown from his truck in a single-vehicle accident south of Fort Jones.
According the California Highway Patrol, the 22-year-old Etna man had been driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup at an unknown speed on Eastside Road roughly a half mile east of Island Road. Investigators determined that the truck crossed into the westbound lane of the road, and, in an effort to regain control of the vehicle, the driver attempted to steer the truck to the right. The truck then traveled across both lanes of the road, on to the shoulder and overturned.
The motorist, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the pickup and suffered fatal injuries. Officers discovered the body of the motorist lying in a field about 50 feet from the truck. The truck sustained total rollover damage.
The fatal Scott Valley area crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
