A crash that took place near a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. substation interrupted service for about 10,000 customers in Merced, according to the news.
The California Highway Patrol has revealed that a 46-year-old was driving a 1995 Kenworth truck on the northbound lanes of the Highway 59 when he attempted to light a cigarette just before he reportedly lost control of the wheel of his truck, which prompted the vehicle to driver off the road and crash into an embankment where it hit multiple power poles.
The vehicle was found overturned on the shoulder of the highway. No injuries were reported.
