Several news agencies have been reporting that an officer from the California Highway Patrol who was riding his motorcycle off the eastbound lanes of the Imperial Highway was injured as a result of an accident that happened after a high-speed chase.
The official accident report revealed that the crash was reported around 12:25 p.m. when the officer spotted a speeding motorcyclist on the 91. According to the authorities, the trooper began to pursue him after the speeding motorcyclist failed to pull over. The chase continued to the Imperial Highway off-ramp where the trooper veered off the road after negotiating the curve and crashed into the dirt field off the side of the shoulder.
The motorcyclist who was being chased was able to escape the scene. The California Highway Patrol officials investigating his case urge witnesses with any information related to the fleeing driver to step up immediately.
The trooper was taken to the hospital after the accident where he was later treated for the moderate injuries he sustained.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
I hope the trooper is recovering incredibly fast from the wounds he may have sustained. My sympathy goes out to him during this difficult moment. I’ve seen similar accidents in the past and know that other riders were not as lucky as he was for not being fatally wounded.
I urge all motorcyclists in California to refrain from riding above the speed limit and to avoid accidents by following all traffic regulations.
