Repeat Drunk Drivers Targeted in San Joaquin County

A program which focuses on targeting repeat drunken driver offenders has resulted in safer streets, say court officials. The program, now in its fourth year, is being granted $570,00 from the California Office of Traffic Safety to continue the efforts. Offenders who are released from jail are monitored as part of the program, reporting regularly to a judge. Drunken driving injuries and deaths have lowered since the start of the enforcement. 756 offenders in the program must participate in drug and alcohol testing, as well as participate in 12-step recovery programs. Some must use locks on their car’s ignitions or submit to home inspections.

According to news reports, they work with people on a case-by-case basic, program managers say. 61% of those who complete the program have less chances of repeating the offense. “All recovery needs to start somewhere,” a program leader said. “These statistics show that small steps lead to big results.” As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I am glad programs like these exist in order to reinforce safety standards and prevent drunken driving. If you or a loved one are involved in an auto accident caused by negligence, you may consult with a car accident lawyer Los Angeles.
