According to the information found in a series of news articles, River Ranch Fresh Foods, LLC of Salinas, CA has issued a recall for certain bags of salad over health concerns.
The official recall announcement issued by the Food and Drug Administration’s office has revealed that bagged salads packaged under several brand names were randomly tested in independent laboratories. According to the results, the products were discovered to have been contaminated with Listeria moncytogenes, an organism that could pose a serious health threat to individuals with weak or compromised immune systems.
Consumers are advised they must check the brand names and code dates between 12 MAY 2012 and 22 MAY 2012 to identify the recalled bags. All potentially contaminated products should be returned to the place of purchase right away for a full refund.
The affected brands are: Hy-Vee, River Ranch, Marketside, Farm Stand, Shurfresh, Cross Valley, Fresh n Easy, Sysco, Promark and The Farmer’s Market.
No other products produced and distributed by River Ranch were affected by this recall. Although no illnesses have been reported in association with this product to date, the federal agency has decided to issue this recall announcement to alert consumers of the risks they could be facing.
