A 19-year-old Santa Cruz County man was injured Thursday afternoon when the car he was in went off a steep embankment and into an agricultural pond, report news sources.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the vehicle was traveling on a dirt road between Santa Cruz and Davenport near a farm when the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle. The automobile fishtailed then fell roughly 80 feet down off an embankment and into the freshwater gully, about 500 yards from the ocean, say witnesses and authorities.
A Santa Cruz County man in his 40s who had been in the car escaped the vehicle and climbed up the embankment to get help. Firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection rescued the 19-year-old who was transported to a hospital by ambulance. Officials say the teenaged man was breathing when he was being taken to the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation.
As a San Jose car accident attorney, I know the types of injuries that a person can suffer in an accident like this. I wish the 19-year-old a rapid recovery. My experience as a car accident lawyer has also shown me the challenges that a person can face while they recover from car accident injuries, and I hope that the young man gets all of the help and support he needs.
