According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, new car sales in California are up despite the many recent recalls. Although Toyota’s and Honda’s are the top-selling cars of the state, they are seeing a slight reduction in sales overall. Honda still had the two best-selling cars in the state, the Civic and the Accord. Toyota’s Camry and Corolla are third and fourth, followed by the Toyota Prius. American car companies such as General Motors and Ford are seeing an increase in Californian sales, along with the Buick which has nearly doubled in sales. According to the California New Car Dealers Association, San Francisco Bay car sales are growing at a higher rate than Southern California. “We love the fact that the numbers are going up instead of down, but this will still turn out to be one of the worst years in decades,” said Brian Maas, director of government affairs for the trade group. “Once people feel more secure in their job positions and the economy starts to turn around, there is a potential for auto sales to come back up much more quickly.”
As a Los Angeles car accident lawyer, I am pleased the surge of recent vehicle recalls hasn’t caused a severe economic problem for California’s automobile businesses. It is possible this is in part due to the fear of buying a recalled car off a used car lot. It is important for car buyers to stay aware of recent recalls, especially on used car lots, to make sure no one is illegally selling a recalled vehicle.
