According to news sources, three teenagers were injured in a car crash on Highway 12 Tuesday afternoon and sent to the hospital after the vehicle veered off the roadway when its tire blew out.
The 16-year-old driver was driving a Jeep Wrangler on Highway 12 at speeds of about 55 mph when the accident took place, the California Highway Patrol said. The left rear tire blew out and caused the vehicle to drift across lanes onto opposite traffic before veering off the roadway and falling off a steep embankment. the CHP said.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Two other 16-year-olds were inside the vehicle when the accident took place. Both reportedly sustained moderate injuries. They were both wearing seat belts.
The teenage driver was subsequently airlifted to an hospital for treatment.
