News sources report that a 14-year-old girl is in critical condition after reversing a vehicle into a storm channel in Tujunga Tuesday night.
According to the Tujunga Police Department, the crash happened around 9:15pm near Oro Vista Avenue and Hillrose Street after the girl had attended a church youth organization event. Officials said that the girl was parked in the church parking lot with an 18-year-old woman when the 14-year-old got behind the wheel and accidently put the vehicle in reverse. The vehicle went through a fence and fell 10 feet into a storm channel. Authorities say that it is unclear as to why the girl was behind the wheel.
Both women had gotten out of the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived. Emergency crews placed them on backboards in order to safely lift them from the channel. Both women were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The 18-year-old woman suffered only minor injuries while the 14-year-old sustained head and chest trauma. She remains in the hospital.
Police are continuing their investigation.
