Dangerous space heaters sold at Walmart are being recalled, the company announced Thursday.
Nearly 2.2 million faulty electric heaters are affected by the recall, according to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Consumers who own the heaters have reported burn injuries and fires resulting in property damage, according to news reports.
The heaters involved in the recall are:
- “Flow Pro,”
- “Airtech,”
- “Aloha Breeze”
- “Comfort Essentials”
The heaters were sold for about $18 at Walmart stores nationwide from from December 2001 to October 2009, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. They are all 1,500-watt electric heaters with the model number 1013, which can be found on a label on the back panel.
“The heaters can malfunction and cause overheating, smoking, burning, melting and fire. Wal-Mart has received 21 reports of incidents, it said. Those included 11 reports of property damage beyond the heater, and four injuries. Three people needed medical care for minor burns and smoke inhalation,” according to news reports.
As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I urge consumers to check their space heaters to find out if they have this recalled product. This is a very serious recall that has already resulted in personal injuries and property damage. For more information on this recall, contact the company at 800-925-6278 or www.walmart.com .
