A woman was killed on Wednesday in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 580 on the Altamont Pass, report news sources.
At around noon, a green Honda, driven by the 23-year-old Stockton woman, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 580 when the woman lost control of the the vehicle. According to the California Highway Patrol, the car left the roadway just east of the North Flynn Road exit went up an embankment and back on to the road, overturning multiple times. The woman was ejected from the car. Authorities discovered her body in the fast lane.
Passers-by stopped to assist the woman and emergency crews were dispatched to the accident site. At about 12:15 p.m., paramedics declared the woman dead at the scene.
The two left eastbound lanes of the freeway were shut down for about two hours following the accident. Both lanes were reopened by 2 p.m.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fatal crash.
