Several news agencies covering car accidents in California have reported that a person was killed after being involved in an accident that happened last Wednesday on the San Diego freeway.
According to the many news articles covering this accident, a 43-year-old man from San Diego was driving a Toyota Rav4 carrying his entire family when another vehicle swerved to attempt to keep from hitting a car that was trying to make an illegal lane change and crashed into the SUV. With the impact, the SUV overturned, crashed into the center divider and stopped before plunging off the freeway.
The official spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol revealed that construction workers placed a forklift on top of the vehicle to keep it from falling. A 66-year-old occupant was rushed to the hospital right after the crash where she was later pronounced dead while all other occupants suffered minor injuries.
Whenever I, a San Mateo personal injury lawyer, hear about a fatal accident that was caused by something that could have been prevented, I feel terribly saddened. I hope that the family of the woman tragically killed in this accident is being able to receive all the support they deserve during this sad time of their lives. My sympathy goes out to them. I urge drivers to be extremely aware of the dangers of attempting to engage in illegal lane changes. Following traffic regulations and focusing on road signs could save your life and the lives of many others. Stay alert and driver safely.
